One of my sons has a theory that any pub roast that costs more than a tenner is probably too fancy and probably disappointing. He would love the Elm Tree, and we'll be sure to bring him here on his next visit from London.
Today the choice was from Aberdeen Angus beef or locally reared pork - hard to choose (but you can ask for bit of each). Beef was nicely pink in the centre, and delicious. Baby carrots, brocolli in cheese sauce, crisp potatoes, YP, cabbage, mashed swede, and plenty of gravy. Excellent value at £8.95, £4 more for dessert. Again, spoilt for choice between treacle sponge, apple pie or clotted cream rice pudding - traditional but very well made. Extensive normal menu and special board run alongside for those not wanting a roast. Good value wines and well-kept guest ales make this a good place to drink too. Well placed for walking. We used to come her often years ago - glad it's back on form.
